1. Can i tile over Parquet / Cork / Amtico ?
A. No these floor coverings must be removed and the substrate treated with neat ABA before tiling with polymer modified cement based adhesive.
2. Are there weight resrictions when tiling onto various wall substrates ?
A Yes. Plaster 20kg/m2. Plasterboard 32kg/m2. Cement Board 50kg/m2.
3. How do i prepare for tiling onto an Anhydrite screed ?
A. You must ensure that the screed has had adequate time to cure, which will depend on the thickness. The screed must contain <0.5% residual moisture before any tiling can take place. Any surface laitance must then be removed and treated with 2 neat coats of ABA
4. Do i need to prime ?
A. There are a few exceptions but check the adhesives TDS for substrate specific information.
5. Why is the grout on my floor cracking ?
A. This usually because there is to much movement within the floor. Most grouts with th exception of Maxigrout mixed with Maxigrout Plus liquid are designed to be used with strengthened floors only.
6. What adhesive should i use to tile over underfloor heating ?
A. All of our polymer modified adhesives are suitable for cabled underfloor heating. If the heating is piped the use One Part Rapid Set or One Part CFTA is recommended and if the substrate is anhydrite or a floating floor then the adhesive must be mixed with Granflex Plus liquid. Heating must remain switched off for 7 days after tiling has finished and then turned up gradually over a period of a further 7-10 days
7. Can i tile to fibreglass or metal ?
A. Yes. With regard to metal the only one we would recommend you tile would be stainless steel. Granfix Ultimateflex will adhere to both these substates. Check the TDS for preparation recommendations.
8. Why do i have staining in my grout ?
A. There are soluble minerals within the cement based grout and when the grout is mixed with water these minerals dissolve. As the grout dries out the minerals can settle on the surface of the grout and recrystallize giving a white appearance. this can be removed in most cases with an acid cleaner. However, with natural stone a specialist non acidic cleaner must be used. This can be avoided by keeping to the recommended wate addition for the product and not overwashing when cleaning down. If an acid solution does not remove the problem then we do offer a Grout Restorer in a full range of colours which is available through our telephone sales.
9. Can i put large tiles on a wall with paste adhesive ?
A. No. Dispersion adhesives dry by evaporation of water and large tiles will effectively trap the water contained in the adhesive for a prolonged period of time. This makes the tiles susceptible to detachment if there is any shock movement during the early curing stage. The general rule of thumb is to use cement based adhesive if the tile is non-porous and above 300mmx300mm.
10. Can i use sand to bulk out Solo for applications greater than 6mm ?
A. No. You must use 3mm dry aggregate or cosider using Thick Bed Levelling Compound instead.
